John Wheeldon

I
have
been
making
pots
now
for
over
50
years
and
during
that
time
have
investigated
many
different
aspects
of
the
craft
including
domestic
stoneware,
lustreware,
Raku
and
more
recently
earthenware
tableware.

These
vessels
are
a
response
to
a
desire
to
use
the
surface
as
a
canvas
on
which
to
paint
and
draw.

They
are
hand-thrown,
altered
and
hand-painted
with
under-glaze
slips.

The
motifs
used
are
from
various
sources;
some
are
re-imagined
from
previous
work,
some
from
drawings
of
objects
seen
or
remembered
and
some
that
have
hung
around
in
the
recesses
of
my
subconscious
for
years
before
surfacing.
